Akumal is
Mayan for "Place of the Turtle". We regularly swim, snorkel, or dive with these
gentle giants. Every year we see these 400-600 pound turtles come back to our
beach to dig their nest's and lay their eggs. We see the completion of the
cycle when the babies, who fit in the palm of your hand, hatch and scramble to
the sea.
The Beach in front of Club Ed Akumal is beautiful, close, and friendly. It's protected by the Palancar Reef, the second largest reef in the world. The water is usually between 78 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit, clear and calm. Either swimming or snorkeling, expect to see an abundant type and species of fish, turtle, eel, lobster, sea fans, and coral formations. Use our 'easy-to-use' sea kayaks to play and enjoy the bay.
